The Importance of Offering Remote Legal Services

Like most businesses, here at Gross Shuman, we were forced to substantially change the way we operated in March 2020. Our team of nearly 50 attorneys and staff vacated the office in favor of working remotely. The process took some strategic planning, an investment in technology and time, and some flexibility. The good news is, we became very good at it. Our clients adapted, our attorneys adapted, our staff adapted, and we were able to continue offering the best legal services possible, even in the midst of a global pandemic.

Though we have been back in our downtown Buffalo office for many months, we recognize that, as COVID-19 and its variants continue to impact our clients and our community, we must remain flexible.

According to a 2021 report by tech company Clio, pre-COVID, only 23 percent of clients were willing to work with an attorney remotely. Face to face was king. You might think in 2021, clients would be eager to return to face to meetings. But the latest data found that 58 percent of clients preferred to have an initial consultation held by video call.

At Gross Shuman, we have adapted to serve our clients however they prefer. For those who prefer, our offices are open to client meetings. We require proof of vaccination, and everyone is fully masked. We also make sure all surfaces in our conference rooms are cleaned between uses.

For those who feel safer not coming into our office, we have a station set up in our outer lobby where clients can stop by and sign documents if needed.

And, for those who prefer to remain completely remote, we continue to offer video conferences and calls.

Before COVID, many industries (including ours) were hesitant to embrace remote work, but the world has changed, and our team has changed right along with it. As we look ahead to 2022, we see this hybrid form of providing legal services as the most effective way to serve all of our clients.

We cover 16 primary practice areas with 23 attorneys, each of whom are ready to serve your legal needs. To learn more, visit our website, www.gross-shuman.com and if you would like to talk to a member of our team, give us a call, 716-854-4300.
